Updating sites

When you get a new version of the kit or new content, there’s no command line and nothing to run.

  1. Back up app/config.php and app/data/ (your database): download them with your host’s File Manager or FTP.
  2. Upload the new files over the old ones: never overwrite app/config.php or app/data/.
  3. Visit your site. That’s it.

On the first visit after an upload the site notices the new files and:

  • adds new pages from the update,
  • refreshes pages you never edited with the new text,
  • keeps every page you edited yourself in Admin and lists it under Admin → Updates, where you can tick the ones you want to replace with the new version (or keep yours),
  • leaves pages you deleted deleted, and clears the page cache.

The dashboard shows a notice when something is waiting in Admin → Updates. There’s also a Check for new content now button there.

For developers (optional)

If you have SSH access you can do the same from the command line: php app/cli.php content:sync. Add --overwrite=pricing,about to replace specific pages even if they were edited, or --home to replace the homepage texts with the ones in site.json.
