How to build a price comparison website

A price comparison website pulls product prices from many stores into one page, so shoppers can see who’s cheapest, and you earn a commission when they click through and buy.

1. Pick a niche you can win

Big general comparison sites dominate broad searches. Win with a specific niche where shoppers search exact products or part numbers: replacement parts, filters, tiles, components, consumables.

2. Join programs with product feeds

Apply to merchants on networks that provide product datafeeds: CJ, Awin, Impact, Rakuten Advertising and AvantLink all offer them for many merchants. Amazon’s program uses its own tools instead.

3. Import and normalize the data

Download feeds daily, map columns (name, price, sale price, URL, image, brand, MPN, UPC, stock) and filter out irrelevant products.

4. Match products across stores

Match by UPC/GTIN or manufacturer part number where possible: titles vary too much between stores.

5. Build pages people want

A page per product or part number with specs, compatibility notes, the price table and helpful guides. Thin pages with only a price grid rarely rank.

6. Get traffic and stay compliant

SEO for long-tail product searches, disclosure of affiliate relationships, and fresh prices with “as of” dates.
